We are all beginning a new year in 2023. The NextGen group plans to refocus on fun and fellowship while serving as a bridge between students, young professionals, and the Geophysical Society of Houston.

NextGen will host quarterly happy hour events at four popular centrally located venues with plenty of parking, food, drinks, games, and seating. We’ve chosen dates that coincide with Spring Break, the summer internship season, the beginning of job interview season, and end-of-the-year celebrations. Additionally, the venues are dog friendly! Event registration is free, but you must register online or onsite.

NextGen is also planning two larger group activities for the GSH. The 2022 Axe Throwing event hit the bull's eye, and many members are anticipating its return in 2023. NextGen plans to host this year’s axe-throwing event in June 2023. During the January GSH Board of Directors meeting, NextGen proposed the idea of the first-ever, GSH Family Picnic at Memorial Park Picnic Loop, which was well received. We plan on hosting this event in the Fall after the Houston temperatures cool down.

We are currently sorting out the logistics for both events, so look for more details regarding all these events in next month’s journal.
