On the evening of Tuesday, December 3, 2024, I volunteered for the last time at an outreach event in Houston, the Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy (YWCPA) STEAM Night. The event was held to foster and encourage middle school students to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM). GSH booth activities included crude oil and rock samples, drilling for oil game, wave motion demos using a rainbow coiled spring and my knocking on the table and girls listening for shear waves. I also gave away GSH logo coiled toy springs.
In early January, I’m stepping down from being the GSH Outreach Chair after 17 years. I’m moving to Virginia to semi-retire and spend time with my granddaughters. Sara Tirado stepped forward and volunteered to take the position of GSH Outreach Chair. Sara volunteered at several events over the past few years and I am confident that she will be a good fit. I wish her the best and will stay in contact since I am a lifetime GSH member.

Lisa thanks for your contributions, networking and energy that you put into this important STEM outreach by GSH. I wish I could have participated in more Science Fair judging.
Wish you all the best in your next adventures in Virginia!
Encouragement goes out to Sara Tirado in taking on this important and challenging role!
